Mikkelsen found success in video games, playing Clifford Unger in Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding, and also played the antagonist Mayor Prentiss in the recent Chaos Walking.

Some movie-goers are keen to see Mikkelsen play the good guy for a change, but the charming fellow is just too good a fit for Mr. Freeze.

Dr. Victor Fries is an iconic villain from the DC Comics, who first appeared in Batman #121 in 1959 as ‘Mr. Zero’.

Dr. Fries took on the name Mr. Zero, or Mr. Freeze as he was later renamed, after a laboratory accident caused his body temperature to drop to sub-zero levels. The mishap caused Fries’ genetic makeup to change, driving him to exist within a cryogenic suit for survival.

Freeze’s story also has a poignant undertone, as the doctor was working on a cure for his terminally ill wife prior to his accident.

Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 live-action adaptation Batman & Robin, where Freeze’s touching relationship with his wife was illustrated – alongside his camp performance.

The real question is: What villains has Mikkelsen not played?

The 55 year old has portrayed a host of rich villains during his career, including Le Chiffre from Casino Royale, the Doctor Strange antagonist Kaecilius for Marvel, and Dr. Hannibal Lecter from the hit television show Hannibal.

Mikkelsen is talented enough to retain his charm whilst flaunting the cold exterior of all his villains, and he’s set to continue Johnny Depp’s role of Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3

Twitter Reacts To Mads Mikkelsen Fan Casting

There’s no doubt surrounding Mads Mikkelsen’s ability to play a supervillain, but it’s the emotional heft of Mr. Freeze’s origin that the actor would successfully convey.

Freeze’s mechanical exterior often renders him emotionless at first glance, and Mikkelsen can easily portray a chilly persona.

It was stated by some that there should have been an independent Mr. Freeze adaptation instead of a Joker sequel, as fans are keen to see other heroes and villains explored within the DC Universe.

There may not be any fan art of the actor turning blue, but it’s not too difficult to imagine Mikkelsen rocking the iconic suit. The only tricky aspect to imagine is the return of his bald head.
