Square Enix held on April 19, 2021 the first “NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 official livestream”, revealing new details on NieR Reincarnation, new gameplay and info for the NieR Replicant remaster and most notably revealing Papa NieR can be playable through a certain DLC, here are all the details.
During the stream, Square Enix published a new trailer detailing the NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 additional content. The stream also featured several gameplay parts. Lastly, the segment of the stream exclusive to Niconico Premium also included exclusive gameplay of the Barren Temple. You can find it all further below.
Papa NieR and 15 Nightmares
Back at the Christmas NieR stream (summary), Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito and NieR creative director Yoko Taro mentioned that Papa NieR, Oyaji, or Father NieR depending on which nickname you use, could be playable in the NieR Replicant remaster. With this new stream, we learned that he’s indeed back, but in 15 Nightmares.
15 Nightmares is a highly difficult dungeon which was distributed as DLC for the original NieR Replicant/Gestalt. Now it’s included for free in the remaster. Playing it, you can earn various weapons, and the bonus Kabuki and Samurai costumes.
Papa NieR will be voiced by Kenichiro Matsuda. Kimihiko Fujisaka handled his artwork. All screenshots and artwork are in the gallery above.

NieR Replicant Ver.1.22 – 4 YoRHa DLC
This is free DLC launching together with the game, adding NieR Automata costumes for the characters of Replicant, including 2B for Kainé. Special weapons are included as well, along a function to replace all BGM with NieR Automata‘s. Lastly, it adds several seiyuu from Automata as guests.
On stream, Yoko Taro explained that now that the game is fully voiced, some of the characters who were unvoiced in the original needed new seiyuu.
As such, they asked part of the NieR Automata cast to do it: Yui Ishikawa (2B), Natsuki Hanae (9S), Ayaka Suwa (A2), Aoi Yuki (Pascal), Kaoru Akiyama (Pod 153).
Meanwhile, for the English voice actors, we have Kira Buckland and Kyle McCarley as guests.

Mermaid tells the story of a girl named Louise (Aoi Yuki) and a postman who arrive in a coastal town. Louise’s illustration was also drawn by Kimihiko Fujisaka.
On Stream, Yoko Taro pointed out how Kimihiko Fujisaka was also the chara designer of Drag-on Dragoon (Drakengard) and jokingly said he “reluctantly drew (the artwork above), he draws anything as long as he’s paid even if he doesn’t like it”.
More seriously, Yoko Taro explained how Mermaid was supposed to be in the original game itself, but they didn’t have enough money and had to cut something. So Mermaid got released as a short novel instead, in the Grimoire NieR book.
All of these additions were showcased in a new trailer with gameplay:
