PS5 stock UK – live: Today’s latest PS5 restock updates from Argos, Very, Amazon, John Lewis and more

Five retailers could drop stock this week

(The Independent)

Update: Amazon, Very, Smyths Toys and John Lewis could drop this week. Read on for more information.

The PS5 console launched more than six months ago, but ongoing supply problems mean it’s difficult to actually get your hands on Sony’s new console.

Restock issues have plagued the console since launch day, and despite stores reopening in the UK, it’s still almost impossible to secure a console in-store (and not easy online either).

But the landscape seems to be improving, with huge drops appearing from every single major retailer throughout May. Sadly, the comeback wasn’t quite as strong in June, with the only bright spots being sizeable stock upticks at Game and Very. Things are a-changing this month, however. Last week, we had a massive six drops, with ShopTo rounding off the pack on Sunday.

So if you’re still searching for the console, we’re here to help you get your hands on the coveted PlayStation 5 by keeping an eye on all major retailers, as well as offering the latest insight on any rumoured releases.

Upcoming PS5 games 2021

You might not have got a PS5 just yet, but there are lots to look forward to when you do finally get one. Last week, Sony hosted its State of Play presentation, unveiling 11 new games. As well as extensive footage of Deathloop, we saw new footage of the Death Stranding: Director’s Cut edition of the game. It featured advanced melee combat and new delivery tools, like a robot helper buddy and an impressive cargo cannon.

The game is available to pre-order from Amazon for £42.99. Have a read below for more of our favourite PS5 games.

What time will Very PS5 consoles drop this week?

(The Independent)

Let’s have a natter about Very shall we? The online retailer has quickly become one of our favourite PS5 stockists, with the last few drops lasting up to four hours. It’s why we’re so excited about the rumoured Very drop this week. The last time Very had a PS5 restock was on 22 June, and it’s rumoured to have another drop sometime between 13 and 15 July between 9am and 10am.

Our top tip for Very is not to refresh the queue page when stock goes live, or you will have to queue up from the back again. Don’t do it, no matter how tempting it is to press that button! Stock usually drops between 9am and 10am in the morning.

Smyths is expected to have an in-store PS5 drop this week

Smyths Toys last had a restock on 23 June at 8:30am. Like Argos and Game, Smyths Toys has begun accepting in-store pre-orders. In the last week of June, people were able to walk into their local Smyths Toys store and ask for a PS5, and the retailer is rumoured to have another in-store drop this week. If it’s an in-store drop, you’ll have to go into your local Smyths and ask to pre-order the console. More details should appear between 14 July and 16 July.

Online drops are still expected to take place, however. Smyths isn’t the easiest retailer to secure online stock from, with consoles usually being pick-up only. Its website doesn’t always show the PS5 as being in stock for everyone either, even if someone from the same city as you has managed to buy the console.

PS5 ‘FIFA 22’ pre-order

Chances are you don’t want to hear anything more about football this morning, but this bit of news is big for FIFA fans! FIFA 22 is released on 1 October. The big update is the integration of HyperMotion technology, which combines match capture and machine learning to provide an ultra-realistic football experience.

If you pre-order the ultimate edition of the game before 11 August, you will receive an untradeable FUT Heroes player item, so it’s worth pre-ordering if you want the item, plus all the added extras.

Last week, Nintendo finally unveiled the highly-anticipated follow-up to the Nintendo Switch console to somewhat muted applause.

We know exactly what you’re thinking – not another console that’s going to be unbelievably hard to buy! Lucky for you, your favourite stock trackers are already on the case. We’ve started compiling all the retailers who have currently put the Nintendo Switch OLED up for pre-orders. Game and Argos have already sold out of the console, but you might find success at Smyths Toys. Have a read below for all the latest stock information.

When could Amazon drop PS5 consoles?

(The Independent)

Amazon is one of the retailers rumoured to have a restock this week, sometime between 13 and 15 July. It last had a restock on Tuesday 29 June and stock sold out within half an hour. The retailer usually releases the PS5 digital edition before the PS5 disc edition, so don’t worry if you see one go live before the other. The site is also prone to bugging out and throwing up error messages, so make sure to use some of our top tips below:

  • Make sure to use Amazon Smile – a separate website that gives a portion of the cost of your purchase toward a chosen charity of your choice. Amazon Smile gets a lot less traffic than the regular Amazon website, so if there are issues, Smile should work better
  • Add the console to your wish list and then add it to your basket – apparently, people have found more success this way

PS5 disc edition vs PS5 digital edition

Most of the time, PS5 stockists have both the PS5 disc edition and the PS5 digital edition in stock, but what’s the difference between the two?

Really, the only difference is that there’s no disc drive in the digital edition of the console. This is why it’s cheaper. That said, it’s often more difficult to secure than the disc edition – maybe the price really does sway people?

Games are downloaded from the PlayStation Store and ownership is tied to your PlayStation Network account. Unfortunately, because there’s no disc drive, you won’t be able to play any physical games you might own. The disc edition of the PlayStation 5 costs £449, while the digital edition, without the disc drive, is cheaper and costs £359.

Best PS5 accessories: PS5 headset

Got your hands on a PS5 in one of the many drops last week? You’re probably going to want to pair it with some neat accessories to help level up your game. Check out Sony’s Playstation 5 pulse 3D wireless headset (£89,, which landed a spot in our review of the best PS5 accessories.

Our tester said that “there’s no shortage of gaming headset options out there but the PlayStation 5 pulse 3D wireless headset is a little bit special. Made with certain PlayStation 5 games in mind, its 3D audio means you can feel fully immersed in the experience, feeling like things are truly happening all around you. “It’s a distinctive way of doing things that stands out more so than conventional headsets, even if not all games fully take advantage of it just yet. It can help you gain an advantage in certain titles too, which is always useful.

“It uses a wireless adapter to connect to your console rather than Bluetooth which is a minor irritant, and you’ll need to remember to recharge it, but it sounds fantastic and it’s comfy to wear even after a number of hours of playing.”

When will John Lewis next have a restock?

Waiting to use that John Lewis gift card you’ve had stuffed in your bedside drawer for over a year? You could take your chance this week, if the rumours of a drop are true.

The retailer last had a PS5 drop at 7am on 10 June. As usual with John Lewis, it didn’t last very long, but it does always seem to drop at 7am like clockwork. According to @PS5Instant, the retailer has just received 2,000 new shipments – a fairly small number of consoles in the grand scheme of things – but it could drop them by Thursday.

Currys PS5 VIP pass codes have been sent out

If you weren’t following our coverage last week, Currys  has just sent out more VIP pass codes for you to redeem. They were sent out on 8 July at midday. Codes have to be redeemed by 13 July (tomorrow) – that’s actually a larger window of opportunity given by the folks at Currys previously. In the old system, you only had three days to redeem a code before they would self-detonate.

If you aren’t aware, Currys used to run a PS5 VIP pass draw, which gave people the chance to win a code to buy a PlayStation. Despite closing in early June to new entrants, people are still being sent codes every couple of weeks. Didn’t manage to sign up? On Wednesday last week, the retailer put the digital console and bundles up for general sale – the first time it had done so in months. Hopefully that will happen again soon.
